Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy in the Twin Cities

Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy

At times, people find themselves caught in emotional or relational patterns that persist despite insight or effort. There may be a sense that something important is shaping experience beneath the surface, even when it is difficult to describe clearly.

I offer psychoanalytic psychotherapy for adults in the Minneapolis–St. Paul area who are interested in a deeper exploration of their emotional lives. Therapy provides a space to slow down, speak freely, and develop a fuller understanding of the inner forces shaping one’s experience. I also work with couples who wish to better understand recurring relational patterns and difficulties in communication or intimacy.

Reasons People Seek Therapy

People come to therapy for many reasons, including:

  • Repetitive or painful relationship patterns

  • Ongoing anxiety, depression, or emotional distress

  • Difficulty with intimacy, identity, or self-esteem

  • Life transitions, losses, or periods of feeling unmoored

  • Recurrent conflict or disconnection within a relationship

  • A sense that familiar ways of coping are no longer sufficient

You do not need to have a clearly defined problem before beginning. Psychoanalytic work allows understanding to emerge gradually through careful attention to experience as it unfolds.

My Approach

My work is grounded in psychoanalytic and psychodynamic psychotherapy, with an emphasis on careful listening, emotional depth, and attention to the therapeutic relationship. Rather than focusing only on symptoms, we work to understand the meanings and patterns that organize experience—many of which operate outside immediate awareness.

In our work together, there is space to speak freely and to think together about experiences that may feel confusing or difficult to put into words. The aim is not to arrive quickly at solutions, but to allow understanding to develop in a way that feels meaningful and lasting.

About Me

I am a psychoanalyst in private practice in the Minneapolis–St. Paul area, with advanced training in psychoanalytic psychotherapy. My work is informed by ongoing study, consultation, and engagement with the psychoanalytic community. In addition to my clinical practice, I provide supervision and consultation to clinicians interested in deepening their psychodynamic and psychoanalytic work.

In the consulting room, I aim to offer a thoughtful and steady presence that supports reflection and honest engagement with emotional experience.

Location and Practice Information

I see adults and couples for in-person psychotherapy in the Twin Cities and may also offer remote sessions when appropriate. My practice is oriented toward longer-term, depth-focused work, though initial consultations provide an opportunity to think together about whether this approach feels like a good fit.

Getting Started

Beginning therapy can feel like a significant step. You do not need to be certain about beginning therapy in order to reach out. An initial consultation offers space to talk about what brings you in and to get a sense of how working together might feel.

You are welcome to contact me if you would like to think together about whether this kind of work might be helpful.
